Special Needs: Heartworm Positive

4/20/15

Honey is doing really well in her foster home.  She is living with three other boxers and gets along great with all of them.  Honey is crate trained and 99.9% house trained.  She is gaining some much needed weight and filling out nicely.  Honey walks well on leash and enjoys going for walks, but her favorite thing to do is just to snuggle on the couch with a human.  Honey is starting to play with toys.  It is amazing to watch her learn what the good life is all about.  I think she was treated very poorly prior to rescue.

Honey will be starting her heartworm treatment soon and would love nothing more than a family to call her own.  She is a petite girl that has a lot of love to offer.  If you think Honey is the girl for you, apply today!

4/13/15

Honey has visited our vet and this sweet girl has a lot to overcome right now.  In addition to being significantly malnourished, Honey has hookworms, a cold, a huge pressure sore on her chest, and she is very anemic.  Honey also tested heartworm positive.  Once she has gained enough weight, Honey will begin her heartworm treatment and will later be spayed.  The vet confirmed that Honey is probably only around 1.5 yrs of age.

Now that she is on a good diet and receiving the care she needs, Honey should make improvements with each day and she will get rechecked by our vet in two weeks.  Honey is settling in really well at her foster home.  She gets along great with the other three boxers and is doing wonderful in her crate during the work day.  Once she recovers from her past neglect, Honey will have her whole life ahead of her.  Please consider making a donation to help with Honey's treatment.

4/08/15 -

Honey was found as a stray in terrible shape.  This young girl is very underweight.  Honey earned her name for being so very sweet.  Whatever her circumstances were in the past, it hasn't affected her wonderful personality.  When the volunteers were taking pictures at the shelter, Honey was full of wiggles for every new person she met.  She was tested with other dogs and did great.  With some TLC, Honey will have a wonderful life ahead of her.  She will be arriving at her new foster home soon and will visit our vet this weekend.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 3 months to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Not every home is the right match for a boxer, and matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us at your home visit of other dogs you are interested...  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
