Buster came to AABR underweight, with sad eyes and very unsure of himself.  This sweet boy has come a long way in the past three weeks in his foster home!  His separation anxiety is under control thanks to a Thunder Shirt, long morning walks, and the comfort of his foster siblings.  He has picked up weight and is becoming more confident.  Buster is learning commands such as sit and stay.  For being such a young boy, Buster is very calm and relaxed.  He often will choose to snuggle rather than play.  Buster loves to put his face as close to you as possible for attention.  The sweetest moment is seeing him curled up in a tiny ball and snuggling next to the other boxers.  He does have a tendency to counter surf.  Buster does not like to be crated, so will need free run when left alone.  Buster is looking for a forever home with another dog and preferably with somebody who is not gone long hours.

Buster is doing well in his foster home.  He whines for about 15 minutes after being left alone, but then curls up on the couch and sleeps.  There are no longer any issues during the day.  Buster's wound is also healing well and he is gaining some much needed weight.  Buster is a really sweet boy and attended an adoption event over the weekend, where he handled the bunny ears placed on him.  Buster's overall demeanor is very calm and laid back.  All he wants is to snuggle up with his family, whether it be with people or the other dogs.

3/17/15

Buster is doing much better with learning how to handle being alone.  He is still not a fan of the crate, so is left loose with the other two dogs. Buster gets a long walk in the morning and his foster mom is using a Thundershirt and Sentry calming collar.  He has started to relax more during the day.

Buster attended an adoption event this past weekend.  He was very sweet and calm with every new person he met.  He has made so much progress in the short time he has been in foster.  Buster's foster mom will be teaching him basic commands and continuing to build his confidence.

3/11/15

Buster has arrived at his new foster home and is getting along great with his foster siblings, a male and female boxer.  He is not comfortable in a crate and would prefer a home that is there often with him.  Buster's foster home will be working on his behavior when left alone to help him become more comfortable.

Buster is incredibly interactive and affectionate with his family.  He loves to rest his head on your lap.  Buster walks great on leash and is completely housebroken.  He would do best in a home with another dog.  If you are interested in Buster and are around often for him, apply today!

3/07/15 -

Buster was found as a stray and is estimated to be around 2 years of age.  He was introduced to another dog at the shelter and did well with her.  Buster just had a lump removed and will be able to play and release some of his energy  once he fully heals.  He will be arriving at his new foster home tomorrow, where he will be living with two other boxers.  We will update Buster's page once he gets settled in and we learn more about him.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 3 months to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Not every home is the right match for a boxer, and matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us at your home visit of other dogs you are interested...  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
