5/20/13

Although Oscar arrived in a shelter at just six weeks old, he found his way into the safety of an AABR foster home and is now getting the love, socialization and guidance from people and dogs to help him become a well balanced young man. Oscar is a confident, outgoing puppy with an independent personality and a strong mind; in fact, quite a typical Boxer.  He is looking for a family with experience of raising such a puppy and offering him good guidance. Oscar would do best with someone with Boxer or bully breed experience, interested in obedience, and not afraid to set limits. This will bring out the best in this boy and in return he promises to be a lifelong, loving, and loyal companion.

5/8/13

Oscar was in his temporary foster home for just over a week. He is a highly energetic boy who absolutely adores his foster brother. Oscar has already learned to sit for treats and meals, proving he's one smart pup! He has a passion for stuffed toys - the bigger and furrier the better! He's made us laugh every night when he races through the house with a five foot stuffed snake trailing behind him. Oscar is learning to trust his human companions and to understand that even if we're not letting him do exactly what he wants to do, he is still safe and loved. I've compared him to the toddler having a tantrum at the store because he wants a piece of candy. Oscar makes a lot of noise, but that's all it is. He can get mouthy when he is over-stimulated or tired, so making sure he gets a break from play is important.

Based on his evaluation from the shelter and knowing that he has not had any stability in life up till now, we are sending Oscar for a stay with our trainer. We want to give him the best start possible and will be looking for a family committed to continuing with his training. I'm looking forward to hearing his next update!

4/27/13 -

Oscar is a 10 week old puppy who is in need of formal training. He is looking for a home without young children, as Oscar needs a lot of time from his new family right now. Oscar was taken from a litter down south by a Delaware shelter and they deemed him un-adoptable. This shelter contacted rescue for help. Oscar needs to be socialized and taught some manners. He is looking for a home with boxer or bully breed experience only. More information will be posted as Oscar settles into his foster home.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
