The good news is that Wrigley will have surgery on his cleft palate when he is 14-16 weeks old. We just have to keep him healthy until then. The doctors also want him to start on puppy gruel, so that will be an adventure!! The bad news is that the doctors confirmed through examination that Wrigley does indeed have hydrocephalus. On the bright side, they are happy that he is bright, alert and showing no current neurological symptoms and therefore, no treatment is currently needed. We do have to watch for any symptoms (seizures, slow heart rate, bulging eyes, etc.) as he grows. It is currently unknown how much impairment Wrigley will sustain and only time will tell.

Overall, the doctors feel Wrigley's prognosis is guarded due to the hydrocephalus. We're okay with that because we always say quality over quantity. We'll do everything in our power to give him the best life ever no matter how long he may or may not have. I feel good about the visit. Even with the diagnosis of hydrocephalus, at least we know now and we can more forward and evaluate him as time goes on. Thanks everyone for your continued support of Mr. Wrigley. He gained so many new admirers at the Vet Hospital today, everyone wanted to steal him :) Please contribute to Wrigley's upcoming surgery - we need your support!

3/18/13 -

Meet Wrigley! Today I picked up this little 5 day old fawn boy with a cleft palate. He is weighing in at 11.5oz (he was 12oz at birth). This guy needs to start eating so he can gain some much needed weight.  Right now, we need lots of positive thoughts and prayers for this little one. He's having his first feeding with us now with many more to come!

Wrigley's mother was not producing any milk, so the breeder was nursing all of his brothers and sisters. Wrigley has a cleft palate and it takes longer to nurse him. For this reason, he was surrendered to rescue where somebody could be more dedicated to feeding him and getting him healthy. We will be updating his page soon with his progress!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
