11/23/13 - MEMORIAL

AABR is heartbroken over the loss of Striker.  He awoke his foster mom, Kim, around 3 AM - crying in pain.  She knew right away that it was bloat and headed straight to the emergency vet.  Unfortunately, the damage was already too great and she made the very difficult decision to let Striker go to the rainbow bridge.

If you recall, Striker had been in our boarding kennel for the last few months and was doing poorly there.  He had lost a great deal of weight and was extremely stressed.  We transported him from PA to CT just three weeks ago and he was doing fantastic - putting weight back on and showing us the dog we knew him to be.  There were talks of sending him to his forever home just a few nights ago.

Nothing can make this feel better, but we take at least some consolation in knowing that Striker lived the end of his life with love, in the company of people who truly cared about him.  Rest easy, Striker.  We will see you again some day.

8/8/13

Striker in in need of a new foster home. He is doing very poorly in the kennel and needs a hero to step up for him. He is not happy about being in lock up and is letting everyone know about it. Striker needs a committed foster or adopter who is willing to work with a trainer (which we will pay for) to get him back on the right track. He can also be selective about his dog friends. If you are an experienced dog owner willing to put the time in to help turn a dog around, Striker has great potential. He just needs the right situation.

3/26/13

Striker is doing well in his foster home. He loves to play tug of war, chase balls and chew bones. He is the perfect gentleman while he gets brushed and he licks your fingers when you cut his nails. Striker will be your constant shadow - he will follow and watch you where ever you go. Apply today to adopt Striker!

2/19/13

Striker does not need to be crated when someone is not home.  His manners are excellent around the house.  Striker does not jump up on you.  He sits for his breakfast and dinner, and knows the sound of the "cookie jar."  Striker is completely housetrained. He has fit right in and has become one of the family: He and the resident dog play well and share toys nicely.  Striker sleeps with his foster mom through the night and is a cuddler. With his human friends, he is playful but very gentle.  Striker loves to be pettted and gives kisses freely.  He is loving the attention he is getting at his foster home.  His foster family can not imagine why somebody gave up this well-behaved, adorable boy.  If you are interested in adopting Striker, apply today!

2/16/13

Striker is doing great in his foster home and is getting along well with the female boxer. He is a delight to have.  Striker has settled here just like he has been with us for a long time and is a total cuddle bug in the bed. Included are some updated pictures.

2/09/13 -

Striker is a five year old male boxer who was returned to the shelter after three years of being in a home because his owner thought he was "too active." Our volunteer who met Striker indicated that he is a total doll baby. He gives lots of kisses and does the sweetest boxer lean as soon as you start to scratch his back. Striker is reported to be good with children and he has lived with two female boxers. If you are interested in adopting Striker, apply today!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
