Greta is still looking for her forever home. She continues to do well and is still symptom free. We received some good news - Greta recently had blood work done and her liver enzymes were only slightly elevated above normal, so it appears the medicine and her special diet is working. Greta get along with most dogs, but can be picky when first meeting them. She loves people of all sizes. Greta enjoys going for car and boat rides, and is always a hit on the ferry rides to Ocean Beach. Greta would do best in a home where someone is there a good portion of the day, so if you work from home, are retired, or a stay at home parent - and interested in giving this sweetie a home, please apply to adopt Greta today.

Greta is still looking for her forever home.  She is a really sweet girl and likes to play with her foster buddies. She is on medicine for her liver disease and is still symptom free. While spaying Greta, our vet saw some fluid in her abdomen that should not be there.  She has had a number of tests that indicated a bad liver function and underwent an ultra sound and finally a liver biopsy.  The diagnosis was liver cirrhosis. 

Cirrhosis is a consequence of chronic liver disease characterized by replacement of liver tissue by fibrosis, scar tissue and regenerative nodules (lumps that occur as a result of a process in which damaged tissue is regenerated), leading to loss of liver function. This is very uncommon in a 1 yr old dog and although we will never know how this happened, it could have been as simple as Greta eating some pennies as a puppy, and not passing them for a sustained amount of time.

She is on medication now to reduce copper levels and treat her condition, but to be truthful, this will effect the length of her life span.

She is a really nice fun little girl and likes to rough house with her foster buddies.  If she had come to us already spayed, we would never have know about her condition because she is pretty much symptom free.  The liver is one organ in our bodies that can seem to regenerate itself if some portion of it is still healthy, so we can hope for that and enjoy her for as long as we have her.

Greta is a sweetheart. She has been in her new foster home for about a week now. She loves any attention anyone will give her and is very playful. She likes to play with her foster brothers and sister. We are working on potty training and she is doing better each day. Greta is a very smart girl who is picking up on new commands and learning hand signals quickly. She gets a little anxious when left alone, but is improving each day. She would probably do better in a home where someone is home a good portion of the day. This adorable girls needs a home to call her own.  Please apply to adopt Greta. Greta is a petite female boxer who was found as a stray. She is deaf, but appears to know hand signals - immediately demonstrating sit and paw! Greta received a bath and seems to be a very friendly, wiggly girl. She is happy to be sleeping in a home.

Greta has been out of the shelter for a few days now and is really letting her adorable personality shine through. She is incredibly sweet, immediately bonding to her emergency foster parents. She immediately demonstrated that she knows about the crate and is 100% housebroken. Being that she was a city dog, she is great on the leash. The only time she pulls is when she wants to go meet kids on the street. She watches out the window at the kids when they get out of school and is incredibly good with them when the come up to say hi to her.  She is very affectionate and just loves to put her head on your lap.

This girl is a perfect pint sized companion. She did amazing on her dog test at the shelter, but has had kennel cough so she hasn't been able to play with other dogs since she got out of the shelter. This little girl will be an easy addition to any family!

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.  

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.  

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.
