The original "Ladies Man" - Joe Boxer is still available!! Joe is doing really well in his foster home. Joe just had surgery to take off the last of his little lumps and we think he's doing great. Joe has come a long way in foster care, but his health is wonderful, his attitude is great, he loves to play, and he's quite the giant lap dog. Everybody loves Joe and he loves everybody! If you have a place in your home and heart for this gentle giant, please apply today!

Hey Folks! My name is Joe (Joe Boxer)! I've just celebrated my one year anniversary at my foster folks and let me tell you, its been quite a year! First, AABR rescued me from a pretty bad place. I was in bad shape as you can see from my pictures way down at the bottom of this page. But my foster mom took me to a bunch of doctors and it turns out I had some things called mast cell tumors. The docs didn't know what to do with me, but then my foster mom found a doc that treated each tumor and they started to come off. I don't have any more big ones left. I do have a couple little ones, but those are no big deal. Next time I have my teeth cleaned, I'll probably get those taken off too. So I'm a pretty healthy guy as far as that goes!

But that's not all that happened this year. I got to live in a house with lots of foster brothers and sisters. To be honest, turns out, I'm a ladies man. I like my foster sisters a lot. I can play for hours with my girls. I'm ok with a couple foster brothers that I've had, but in general -I'm not really into dudes. I'd prefer to live in a house with just "chicks" if you know what I mean (wink, wink).

I'm a really good boy. I'm housebroken, love to snuggle, and if you didn't see my picture, I am quite the "looker". My human teenage foster brother calls me a "chick magnet". I'm not sure what that means, but he seems to like to take me on walks. :)

So, here's the deal...I like my foster folks, but they are foster folks. I need forever folks. If you know where I can find some, please let me know. I promise you won't regret it. I've been told, I'm awesome.. and I gotta agree! Check me out today!

Joe Boxer is still looking for his forever home! This sweet boy has been through a lot in life, but he's on the mends, doing great, and looking for a home to call his own. Joe went into a foster to adopt home recently, but unfortunately the resident dog didn't like sharing her turf -so Joe is still in search of a place to call his own.

We really think Joe is awesome. Just look at his head - so handsome! Please consider giving Joe a forever home. He'd be great in a home with female dogs, but no male dogs for Joe. He also loves people and considers himself quite the lapdog.

5/8/13

Joe is doing so well! Comparing the pictures when Joe came into rescue to what he looks like now...it is almost like he's a different dog. This big, smooshy faced guy has had his fur grow in, gained some weight, and is just adorable. Everyone that meets him just wants to smoosh his squishy face.

When Joe had some of his growths removed, they were found to be cancerous (mast cells).  The good news is that no new ones have popped up, which probably means that the switch to good food and proper flea and skin care is all that he needed to stop those ugly growths from sprouting up. He is now on a holistic treatment to shrink the remaining growths and hopefully get rid of them forever.

The prognosis for Joe is good and he'd love to find a forever home to call his own because we think he'll be around for awhile. :) We would also consider a long-term foster home. Joe loves, loves, loves the ladies. He is in a house full of female dogs, small, medium and large - including a Boston, Frenchie, and some other boxers and he loves them. He gets along with the resident male boxer, but we are recommending Joe go to a home without other male dogs. Please consider adopting Joe Boxer today. He is absolutely awesome!

Hi Folks! Its me, Joe! We haven't given you a "Joe Boxer" update in a while so Joe asked that we let everyone know how he's doing. If you recall, Joe came to AABR neglected & with many skin growths. Joe had many of the growths removed last month. Unfortunately, the test results came back that many of them are Mast Cell tumors. Unfortunately, unlike a single Mast Cell, its impossible to remove all of the tumors. Fortunately, it appears they are very slow growing so it may be many years before they cause a problem. There are also new treatments available. Joe will see an oncologist this week to discuss options. We will let everyone know what the vet says.

Wow!! What a difference a couple months make! Joe Boxer is awesome! This big boy came to AABR in bad shape. He was skinny, covered in growths, and had horrible skin. Now...look at him! Joe had gained some weight, his skin condition has cleared up, and just this week -he had those ugly growths removed.

Joe Boxer is now looking for a partner to start his new life! His outlook couldn't be better and this is one special guy. Joe does GREAT in the house. He doesn't like the crate, but he doesn't need it. He stays very nicely by himself at his foster home. He walks well on the leash and is house-trained. At his foster home, he loves his foster sisters, big and small. He also got along great with a younger male in the house. We would recommend Joe either go to a home with another female dog or to a home by himself. He has no issue being an only dog, but would be fine with a sister or two also. But a warning to anyone wanting to adopt this boy...he thinks he's a lap dog! Shh...don't tell him he's a bit big for that! Joe loves to cuddle. At night, he's happy to cuddle up in his dog bed next to you. He doesn't give a lot of kisses, but he loves to put his big "walrus" face right up to yours and say "hi."

Joe hasn't gotten much love from people in his life before now, but he definitely knows how to give love! This guy is awesome. He's everything you could want in a big, cuddly, silly boxer boy. Now he just needs a home to share. Please consider giving Joe a home today!

9/6/12

Meet Joe Boxer! Just like the brand, he is super cool! Joe came into foster last week and he is adjusting really well.  Joe has clearly never lived full-time in a home before, so he's learning the ropes.  He has quickly figured out that he really likes soft doggie beds to sleep on.

Joe came from a very bad situation. He is covered in growths and has suffered from years of fleas, scratching, and neglect. His skin is also a bit rough. Joe came to rescue very thin, but he has already gained 10 lbs since leaving the shelter. As soon as he gains some more weight, Joe will have surgery to remove the skin growths and to be neutered. The vet says his heart and everything else looks good, so we are very optimistic for Joe's future!

In the meantime, Joe is hanging out with his foster family. Joe does fine with other dogs and we suspect that will only get better once he's neutered. Everything is new for Joe, so things will take time. He's already made some progress with house-training and leash training. He loves people and will cuddle next to you if you sit still for a few minutes. Joe doesn't understand toys yet, but seems to enjoy watching his foster sisters play catch.

Joe has a massive and adorable head. His favorite thing to do is come right up to you and put his face right up next to yours...its Joe's special way of saying "hi". Joe is one of those dogs that will love you forever if you give him a chance. He's been through a lot in five short years. Joe is ready for the next chapter of his life. Now all he needs is someone to help him forget the past and enjoy a very wonderful future! If that's you, please consider applying for Joe today!

Joe has been safely transported to rescue.  Included are some new photos.  His foster mom will update his page once she learns more about him.

8/22/12 -

Joe's owners dumped him at a local shelter because his owner would go to work for a few days at a time and leave Joe in the yard. Joe would run away (probably looking for something to eat), so the owner gave him up.

Joe is in need of some medical care. He has several large masses on his body that will have to be removed before he can be adopted, but he is too skinny to have surgery yet. As soon as he gains some weight, he will be neutered & have the masses removed. Despite being hungry and left at a shelter, Joe has the best attitude. He seems to like other dogs and loves people. Everyone that has met him says he is just full of boxer wiggles. Joe will be transported to our area soon. We will post when we have more information about him. In the meantime, Joe's medical care will not be inexpensive so please consider donating to help Joe get better. If you can provide a forever home for Joe, apply today!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
