5/23/12

Mandy is really progressing as a boxer.  She is playing with toys and loves tennis balls!  She runs and plays in the yard now and is enjoying life in a home.  Apply today for this beautiful girl!

5/8/12

I have to say that I am surprised that no one has wanted to make Mandy their own. She is the most wonderful boxer girl. She has such a sweet little face and the best personality. For a little girl that knew next to nothing when she came to me, she sure has come into her own in the past 4 months. She loves to have treats and someone to be next to. She now runs and plays like a normal boxer does. The best thing is that she does not jump up like most boxers do when greeting her people when they come home. Instead, she does a little prance that lets me know she is happy to see us. We even added another boxer to the household and she gets along great with him. He is very gentle with her because it is like he knows that she needs a gentle playmate.

Today, she was excited to run our fence line with our neighbor's 2 dogs. Five dogs running up & down the sides of a fence was such a funny sight to see, especially since Mandy is learning that this is what normal doggies do during the day when the momma is home and they can run until they drop. She has also become almost completely housebroken, as long as she eats her dinner before 6 pm there are no late night potty accidents. I think that Mandy will do best in a home with another boxer or similar size dog so that she will have someone to continue to learn from and play with. For a former mill girl, this one has come a long way in a short time.

3/25/12

I can not believe that Mandy has been with us for nearly 3 months already! She has come such a long way in a short period of time. Mandy has learned that people are not going to harm her and that some people are loving and caring of their animals. She has learned how to climb up & down steps and then she figured out how to run around the back yard. She has also learned how to climb up on the sofa and bed, and is content to just lay there beside me while I am watching TV or working on the computer for class. She can now go up and down steps like a pro. Mandy has almost gotten the pottying down, but still has a few accidents. We have stopped crating her during the day because it was too stressful for her. So now has free run of the house with her boxer sister. They are both usually snuggled down on the sofa sound asleep when we come home.

Mandy knows her basics, but just needs to work on house-training and she needs to realize that her people will come back to her every time when they leave the house. She does well on her leash & harness when we go for walks around the neighborhood, except that barking dogs scare her. I gently remind her that it is ok and we continue our walk. She is very responsive to that command and will continue along with Sandi & I until we come home. Mandy never jumps up to greet people nor does she try to knock you over to get your attention - she will wait patiently until you reach out to pet her. She has a way to go, but we am very proud of the progress she has made so far.

Mandy has been with us for a month now and what a difference a month has made in this little girl's life! When Mandy came to us, she was afraid of everything -and I do mean everything. She was fearful of steps, noises, sudden moves, and even people. Since she was a "mill girl" she was not house trained nor used to human contact. She also did not have a clue about treat or toys, but she now loves both. I have likened her to a 3 month old pup stuck in a three year old body.

Mandy is now used to being around us and is much more comfortable.  She only has just a few accidents now and is getting the housebreaking concept.  She will now go up and down steps, both inside and outside.  Mandy has slowly learned how to be a boxer girl by playing with Sandi. They will now run around both inside and out in the yard like crazy pups.

We have seen Mandy blossom so much in the past month that it is almost hard to believe that it is the same dog. She has gained a great deal of trust in me and loves to have me help her get in the oversize "dog bed" aka my king size human bed and she will snuggle next to me.  She has also learned to get the extra petting by either nuzzling you or patting you with her paw.  We look forward to working with Mandy and teaching her how to enjoy life inside a loving home!

1/4/12

Mandy has settled into our home quite well. This poor little girl does not know how to be a pet. We have started to slowly introduce her to life as a pampered boxer girl. She is starting with learning that potty habits are for outside and not in the house. She is catching onto this quickly. She has had only a few accidents so far. We bought her a nice comfy dog bed and she still is not quite sure about it and would prefer to sleep beside it on the floor. Mandy is getting curious about toys and playing. Watching Sandi play is so funny to her as she has a look of total wonderment on her sweet face. Mandy actually did a little bit of boxing tonight with Sandi and both were hopping around the living room.  Mandy is slowly coming out of her shell.  If you can provide a forever home to Mandy, apply today!

12/12/11

Mandy was transported into rescue this weekend and she was so scared with all the new changes. She is experiencing many things for the first time, such as riding in a car, meeting many new people, and living life outside of a kennel run. Mandy is a beautiful young girl who just needs a patient home to help her come out of her shell. If you can provide a loving home environment for Mandy, please apply today and help get her out of our boarding kennel and into a foster or forever home.

12/7/11 -

Mandy is the mother of some of the 10 six month old puppies that AABR recently took into rescue from a breeder.  We are so happy to be getting her into rescue and out of a life of breeding.  Mandy has lived her life in an outdoor kennel run and is very scared.  She needs a patient family that can teach her the joys of living in a home and can help her come out of her shell.  Mandy will be transported soon into rescue, where she will be spayed and brought up to date on all vet care.  We will be updating her page with pictures this weekend.  Please offer to help Mandy by fostering her!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
