6/1/12

Roxy has come a long way. She's perfect in the house, even for extended periods of time. Although Roxy has calmed down a lot, she still can get startled if she's resting or asleep. In the last few months, Roxy has begun to play with her toys and has become curious about toys not presented to her. She will bring them to you to toss so she can pounce on them. She loves to chew them while leaning the toys on or against my legs. Roxy is super at catching Frisbees, leaping high in the air to catch them. Someone in her past must have taken at least that time to teach her.

Roxy's nervousness around men has really improved - she will now give hugs and kisses to anyone who says hello. Roxy still does not appear to enjoy the company of other animals. Even from inside the house, she is uncomfortable.  A high secure fence is something that Roxy would benefit from.

I walk or run with her early in the morning.  Roxy has a lot of stamina and loves to be out with me. Roxy would do well living with one person or a family with older children. She needs exercise and quiet, too. If you raise your voice, Roxy will cower and flinch and eventually hide. She's a loving dog who just wants to be loved and feel safe.

12/4/11

Roxy has been an angel in the house.  She prefers a calm atmosphere, but has been very good around children and guests.  She is still easily startled, especially when she is drowsy or sleeping.  Roxy thrives on her exercise - she really enjoys a game of chase in the yard.  She will spend hours with you walking or running, giving you a friendly swat with her paw if you take too long getting your sneakers on.

At this time, Roxy has not been welcoming with other dogs in her life.  She is an insecure girl, but has become much more comfortable with her foster mom, following her everywhere.  She sleeps on the bed or couch at night.  Roxy has made a lot of improvement since going into foster!

8/21/11

After 2 weeks, Roxy seems quite comfortable and calmer in her foster home. She cuddles on the couch when I leave the house and has not disturbed anything. Not one accident, either. When she wants to go out, she rests her head on my leg or my bed if I sleep too long!

Roxy has a great appetite and enjoys fresh fruit and vegetables.  Dog treats are taken very gently from my hand. Homemade chicken or vegetable soup is becoming a favorite of hers! Roxy loves long walks and runs -the longer the better! She gets a little excited if she sees a cat or rabbit (even deer), but I command her to sit for a bit before resuming our walk and she's fine. Speaking of commands, Roxy listens the first time to come, stay, "let's go" even from another room.

Roxy is great company and usually very quiet in the house. She has allowed me from day one to clean her ears, brush her teeth, give her a bath, and wipe her paws without any resistance. Roxy is just a great little girl.

Included are some new pictures of Roxy. She is scheduled to go to her new foster home this weekend. Her foster mom will update her page as soon as she gets to know Roxy better!

5/17/11 -

Roxy is a 6 1/2 year old female Boxer. She is spayed, up to date on shots, and microchipped. Her owner was moving and Roxy could not go along. She was very confused and stressed at the shelter, wondering where her family went. Roxy is reported to be good with other dogs and she previously lived with a male boxer, Dallas. Roxy is in need of a foster home.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.

Adoptions Fee: Please see our adoption info by clicking on the link at the top of this page.
