May is now home from surgery and we are happy to report that is was a huge success!!  The vet was able to close the puncture wound in her chest cavity to stop the air from leaking and there was no damage to her lungs.  Once her stitches come out in another week, May will be off all restrictions and able to run and play!  She has already gained 8 lbs and is now up to 42 lbs.

We are trying to raise the $1100 to cover the cost of May's surgery, bloodwork, and xrays.  Please sponsor May or send a donation towards her vet care!

This girl is definitely a fighter and has amazed everyone with her progress!

May has come a long way in just the two weeks she has been in foster! She is gaining weight and is much more energetic and affectionate. May is getting along great with all the other dogs and the cats. She has not had any accidents and is doing wonderful with the crate during the work day with a mid-day break.  May would do best in a home with a completely fenced yard to run and play in.

May had her first follow up vet visit, where she received bloodwork and x-rays. Due to a previous trauma, probably a bite wound from an animal, May has a puncture in her chest wall that is leaking air. She is in need of immediate surgery to correct this. The vets were amazed that she has survived this past injury, and are hopeful for a wonderful prognosis following surgery. May will have the wound closed and a chest tube placed for several days. This surgery is very costly, and AABR is in need of donations for her care. Please sponsor May and contribute to this upcoming surgery for her.

We will keep you updated about her progress - she has survived so much already and we will be looking for a wonderful, forever home for this special girl!

1/10/10 -

May was found emaciated and almost frozen to death.  Luckily, she wandered into somebody's barn and they contacted rescue for help.  May has a lot of cuts and scrapes, and areas of skin that had been frozen to the icy ground. The people that found May reported that she is very affectionate with people, and May did great with their cats and other dogs. May will be going into a foster home today with three other dogs and two cats, where she will receive some much needed TLC. We will update her page soon. Thank you for your interest in May!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
