1/14/10 - MEMORIAL

Gil, known in his foster home as Huey, may have only been with us for a week but it was long enough for him to remind me of the incredible strength and determination these wonderful dogs display, even when they're struggling and fighting for their lives. Despite constant discomfort and difficulty walking, he never hesitated to let me know when he needed to go outside, even though it meant going down stairs (which was so difficult for him) and out into the cold. He tolerated all of the unpleasant things I had to do for him without a fight and always made eye contact that so obviously said "thank you". And during the times he did feel good? He graciously shared that with his humans. It was apparent that Huey had a long and difficult life, but his temperament never showed an ounce of hostility or aggression. He was so gentle and sweet right through to his very last moment - a true gentleman that we could all take a lesson from.

I know that the few weeks of a loving home provided by me and his former foster can't erase a lifetime of neglect, but I can only hope that his last memories are the ones he took to The Bridge with him. He touched the hearts and brightened the days of so many while he was here and now his pain and suffering are over.

Although today was a very sad day for those of us who knew and loved Huey, I can't help but feel relief and happiness for him. We collectively got him out of a cold lonely shelter, showed him what it's like to be loved and nurtured in a warm, comfortable environment, and gave him the final and ultimate gift when he needed us to help him the most. Had AABR not rescued him, he would have died a slow miserable death in the cold, alone and suffering. Thank you to everyone at AABR -- I am honored and privileged to be associated with you. RIP Huey ...... it's well deserved.

12/28/09 - Update

Gil has brought us so much joy this holiday!  He is gentle and loving, and just wants to be near you.  He gets excited when we wake up or come home, and his little nub wiggles happily.  He follows us around the house and enjoys relaxing on the floor next to the couch while we watch TV.  Gil is completely house trained, well behaved, and very low maintenance.  He has so much love to give, and just wants to be loved in return.  If you are looking for a sweet, easygoing companion, Gil is the guy for you!

12/22/09 -

Gil is a senior boy who was found as a stray. The shelter reports that he is fantastic with people, cats, and other dogs. Gil appears to be housetrained and he walks well on leash. He is already neutered and up to date on all vaccines. Gil will be going to a foster home with a female boxer and we will update his page soon.  Please apply today to adopt this friendly boy!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
