10/04/08 -

This is a sad story waiting for a happy ending. It is the story of "Lucky" Jonah our southern boy who made the 600 plus mile journey to his new life! He was # 6428 brought in to a shelter in NC and given one week to be rescued if not sentenced to the gas chamber. I cry as I write this story because it is reality. It happens every day but not this day not for Jonah. One last emergency email was sent by the shelter stating if they do not get the call (I refer to it as a pardon from the death sentence) by 4 p.m. # 6428 would be gassed. Well, on this day Debbie a volunteer w/ AABR received this email. She would not let this happen and started an email chain and making calls to try to save this boy. Within hours we found someone to save him and get him to a vet's office for boarding; thank you Marcie from Animal League of Gaston County who recued this boy to safety, and Diane who sponsored his vaccines so the office would accept him. Then the task of making arrangements began for the trip of lifetime for Lucky Jonah. With a lot of phone calls and some southern comfort from a group of wonderful ladies (Karen and Lee we are grateful for your help) Jonah made a Friday evening transport to Gail's kennel. He is now safe, warm and happy in the arms of AABR waiting for YOU his happy ending! Jonah is a 3 year old SWEET PEACH and we must say a peach he is. He is Gentle, Calm and Happy to be alive. Dogs who have been uprooted from their homes or have not had the best start in life are more likely to bond very completely and deeply with their new people. Once attached to a new loving family, they seem to want to please as much as possible to make sure they are never homeless again. These dogs are just learning about the good life and good people. They know what life on the streets, life on the end of a chain, or worse is all about, and they blossom in a nurturing, loving environment. Most rescues make exceptionally affectionate and attentive pets and extremely loyal companions and so will Jonah. He has had a rough start in life and deserves a happy ending. Please make his dream come true and finally complete his journey. ADOPT LUCKY Jonah today!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
