It's hard to believe it's been a week since the puppies were born.  They continue to grow almost before our eyes.  Here's the latest weights:

Female puppy #1: 1# 14 oz.
Male puppy #2: 2# 8 oz.
Female puppy #3: 2#

Their ears seemed to have really 'opened' up today and the little boy is almost up on all fours when he scoots around the pen.  It won't be long before he's done doing the army crawl and really motoring around.  The 2 girls are also scooting around the pen quite a bit too and all 3 are eating like crazy as you can tell by the weight gain.  On average they each gain anywhere from 3-5 ounces a day.  As you can see from some of the pictures they're favorite sleeping position is on their backs whether in someone's arms or lap or in the pen itself.

Ruby is leaving the pen for longer and longer periods of time and even is spending some time outside in the back yard running and playing with family members.  You can almost see the smile on her face.  We have discovered though that she really doesn't like the bunnies, squirrels and chipmunks in the backyard and also is quite the 'digger' which we're working on with her.  She's done a little counter surfing too but that's also being addressed.  I guess now that she's lost all the pregnancy weight she can actually get up there to see what's what.

Update on Ruby and pups - Day 1

Hi Jamie,

Here's day 1 update....

Ruby continues to amaze us and the puppies seem to have grown so much just overnight!  It's truly amazing to think that they are only a little over 24 hours old.  They have changed so much already.

Ruby had her vet visit today and was given a shot to help her uterus contract as well as a thorough check up.  Dr. Desiree pronounced mom (and babies) in wonderful shape and she kept commenting on what a sweet dog and amazing disposition she seems to have.  She said alot of new moms would be very anxious and jumping up trying to get to the puppies that we held but she was content just to sit at our feet and watched us with an eagle eye.  She didn't even flinch or anything when she got the shot and was ready to head right back out the door to the van and home.  We haven't weighed her today yet but as of Tuesday (pre-delivery) she was 62#.

As I said, the puppies seem to have grown overnight - of course it's no wonder since all they do is attach themselves to a nipple and eat and sleep right there!  :-)  They are all gaining weight nicely  and look like fat, sleek little sausages already.  It's interesting to see their personalities already coming out.  The first girl  is the most cuddly and still the most vocal of the bunch.  The boy is still the biggest and he just goes over or through anything in his way especially if it's between him and mom's food.  The third little girl our son has nicknamed Flower because he thinks she's as pretty as one, is the quietest of the bunch and seems to sleep more than the other two.  We're watching her closely to make sure she gets enough to eat too.  Although according to her weight gain she is not fooling around while making up for lost time.  She even had a slightly larger weight gain than her sister.

Weight gain for the first day:
Puppy 1  Gail -gain of 30 grams
Puppy 2  Cooky - of 60 grams
Puppy 3 (Flower) gain of 40 grams

Well, I believe it's time for me to go turn into a pumpkin for the night.  It's been another long but very fulfilling day for our family and I'm sure tomorrow will be equally as busy.  We'll get new pictures off to you tomorrow also.

Thanks again!

Deb

10pm- Update - 3 Pups

Puppy #1:
Small female dark brown with slight red/fawn coloring and white strip down the chin & throat to the chest.  Two middle toes on all four feet are currently pink (white)
Born at 12:00 p.m. and weighed 250 grams or 8.8 oz.
Very vocal puppy.  Other than sleeping she's usually the one we hear squeeking.

Puppy #2:
Large male with very dark brown coloring that dried to a light grey with black and dark brown undertones.  White tip on the end of the tail and also white strip down the nose.  All four feet have pink (white) on the toe part of the foot.  Small white triangle on top of nose.
Born at 12:42 p.m. and weighed 390 grams or 13.7 oz.
Definitely the largest of the bunch and only male.

Puppy #3:
Female with darkest coloring of the three.  White on her chest and small spot on chin and also middle toes on right front and back toes are white.
Born at 1:22 p.m. and weighed 310 grams or 10.9 oz.
She seems to be the quietest one of the bunch so far.

All three are eating like troopers and Ruby is being absolutely wonderful and such a good mom!  What a day.

Mom's doing fine!

7/02/07 -

We'd like to introduce Ruby but more then that, weıre reserving a section of our site to Ruby and invite everyone to join with us in this wonderful girlıs rescue.

We received a phone call from a Westchester County, New York shelter telling us that they had a boxer girl that was brought in by the local police.  They asked if we could take her into rescue because she was VERY pregnant due in about 2 weeks.  Of course we immediately agreed to bring her into the safety of AABR a shelter is no place to deliver babies.

We were not quite prepared for the girl we met.  Ruby was brought out to us and to tell you she is the cutest, most adorable girl is just not doing her justice she has, as they say, a face to die for and a personality to match.  Sweet, calm, loving, gentle.. well you get the idea.   Ruby is a beautiful deep fawn (red). Unfortunately her body/legs are heavily scarred. Whether she was caught up in a barbed-wire fence, mauled by another animal, or harmed by humans, we don't know.   What we do know is that her past mistreatment has done nothing to dampen her disposition.  She is amazingly people and animal friendly.

How did Ruby end up homeless?  Late at night, the local police were called. Someone had just witnessed a dog being thrown from a moving car.  The car took off, leaving a very pregnant, very frightened boxer girl to fend for herself on the side of the road. Thankfully, the police immediately picked Ruby up and brought her to the shelter.  And thatıs how this amazing girl began her life as a homeless, mom-to-be.   Once in the care of AABR, Ruby was immediately seen by our vet who performed an ultra-sound and sure enough, we saw little tiny hearts beating, little tiny spines, and little tiny heads and feet.  Ruby and her babies had come through the terrible ordeal of being thrown from the car.  They were all safe now and the future was looking up.

AABR is very fortunate to have very dedicated volunteers and one of those volunteers received a phone call at 11 P.M. Can you foster a dog for us?

Oh and by the way, in about 2 weeks, can you foster about 4 or 5 dogs for us when she gives birth?

Happily, Ruby was welcomed into the loving arms and home of  Deb, Jeff and their children Kristin, Stephanie, and Jeffrey, an amazing family who also have Llamas! We want to thank them for immediately responding to our late night call for help.  And we also want to know whose bed Ruby finally ended up in we left the kids, aged 19, 17 and 12, tussling for the privilege.

Ok so hereıs where you come in.   We want you to visit Rubyıs page often we promise to keep you updated on Rubyıs condition and of course, weıll let you know the minute the babies are born.  We promise lots of pictures of Mama and babies and together, weıll watch as they come into the world and grow.

We invite you to help your children learn a valuable lesson on life and about the importance of spay and neuter and the need to get involved.  Remember, without that life-saving phone call from a stranger, Rubyıs story would never have been told and would probably have ended in tragedy.

We will hold a special something to name the puppies... Not sure quite yet...  And, weıre asking for donations.  Raising healthy puppies is expensive both Mama and her babies will need vet visits, inoculations, etc. So please, help us keep our promise to Ruby that she and her babies will have a happy, healthy future.

Weıre doing our part but we canıt do it without you.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read the information on our Adoption Procedures, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.

Adoptions Fee: $300
