This is Billy, a beautiful, skin and bones boxer with a very sweet and submissive temperment.  She weighs in at about 30-35 pounds - which is about 15 to 20 lbs underweight for this diminutive girl.

She is sweet and loving, but there is little wiggle in her yet - it has been a rough week for her, and judging by her weight, it was rough for some time before as well. We do get tail wagging, she learned today to give a boxer hug, and we are working on the Boxer Bean as well. She is still tired from her past ordeal, but she has begun to play with toys - watching her try to pick up a squeeze toy soccer ball that is just a bit too large is a riot.

We hoped that we would be able to keep her, but she seems quite focused on our two cats - and at this time, she needs constant supervision when she is out of her crate with them around. She is also incredibly frightened of being outside in the city (we live in Manhattan) - too much noise to deal with. The vet said she was good with his 2 big boxer boys - we think she needs to be in a non-city environment and in a home with no cats. She is fully crate trained and potty trained, and listens well (when not focused on her dream toys - the cats).

You can't know how hard it will be to give her up - she is so good natured and sweet, and will make somebody an amazing pup. She's heartbreakingly skinny, but is eating up all we give her and should put on weight quickly.

Due to the cat situation, we hope to find a forever home for her quickly, or at worst, a better foster situation without cats. It just isn't fair to her to put her in a crate, or to lock the cats in the bedroom.

A perfect dog is waiting - just add TLC.

3/4/05 - We would like to thank Dr. Peter Cross and his great staff for treating Billy after she left the shelter!!

This dog came from the NYC shelter. Enlarge the picture to see how thin she is.

I visited with Billy this afternoon. I took some pictures - sorry they aren't a bit better, but she kept moving her head at the last minute. She is severely emaciated (literally skin and bones) - and completely shell-shocked right now. There are no wiggles, and her tail was clamped down the entire time.
She seems sweet, though a bit reserved, for the time being. She seems okay on the leash, and while she is curious about cats, she does not seem overly so.
She let me look at her teeth, no problem (they seem to be good). Apparently she's a finicky eater - they are having a hard time getting her to eat - and right now, she desperately needs to gain weight....
She's got an adorable face, and big huge brown eyes that just draw you in. She needs TLC - a bunch of it.
